Natalia and the search party had no luck on any known Uxe class planet - they grew close during this challenging time. They shared more about themselves. Natalia had learned a lot.
Rob and Shelia were actually a huge deal on Viibs - they formed a coup d’état that almost succeeded. They are now in the history books for Viibs. The government of Viibs is a dictatorship based off of heredity. No one but the dictator likes a dictatorship - and fear is power. It was one planet under one supreme leader. It was heredity based in the since that if there was a survivor of the previous dictator they would be offered that chance to take over if they were successful at ruling. Rob and Shelia, and many others, were not happy at all with this set up. They organized secret meetings so that they could form a plan to over through the dictator reform the government into a democratic system. They had a plan ready but they were found out and Rob and Shelia were caught and they where exiled since they were the leaders in the huge mess. They did not find out the plan and once Rob and Sheila were gone it was implemented and it worked. Since they were exiled others took over and succeeded but they did not know where they were sent and could not be brought back.
Earl was from Hequa. It was a desert. Boring. He just had not opportunities there and felt trapped so he left. The space bus was very unpleasant especially with the cheap tickets he had. Sharing a space for one with three is never pleasant. Those things were never safe in two senses: dangerous people were aboard and they were built fast and cheap. The fast and cheap bit was more dangerous than the dangerous people bit. Earl was one of those dangerous people - but since then he chilled out a lot. The least dangerous thing about him was that he pick pocketed those who had pockets, that is. He stuck to himself and was not afraid to use his abilities as a winged dog man against anyone who dared threaten him. He made sure that he was at the top of the food chain.
Sue was always at the bottom of the food chain on her planet. She was about the equivalent to a chambermaid back in the day before she worked that ship but since coming to Earth she worked herself up to a respectful place in the organization. Sue was always a quiet servant figure and on her planet that landed her a place as a chambermaid but on Earth she was respected. The servant leader was what she did best: “what can I do for you.”
Art was strange and intriguing to Natalia. She was from water based planted that only had one patch of land. He was an amphibious creature. That was all she got out of him.

Backtracking
“Shit,” said Rachel Blank, “that was not supposed to happen. Are you okay?” she looked around for her husband.
“I think so,” said Ted Blank. He stood up and looked around. It was dark, very dark. This was wrong, very wrong. This was not supposed to have happen. But what happened?
They had been working on their private project - a mass transporter unit of their own design using alien technology. And apparently they accidentally set it off when they were not ready. The device was set up in their home “office” that they never let their daughter Natalia enter and oddly enough she never questioned it. It took up half of the room. It was only supposed to transport up to two thousand pounds. But it went wrong and they had no idea what went wrong - they did not push any buttons. They were not even in the room.
“What happened anyway?” that was Ted.
“I think the transporter went off. We need to figure out where we are after we check out the transporter and make sure it won’t go all sporadic on us.”
And so they did. From the limited light they had the unit seemed to be fine. It was intact and turned off - but that was all the more reason to be worrying. If it was not warm, then how did they travel when they only got where ever here was a few minutes ago? If it was running it would be warm no matter whether or not there was no power to the house. This was truly bothersome. If it was due to their device or if their device was running on its own accord then something was very, very wrong. Rule number one is if a lifeless object appears to act on its own - run, its either not its own ruler or else it is not what it appears. So, they gathered what they thought they would need - backpacks changes of clothes, wash cloths, water and food the essentials of human life - and when out to discover where they were.
It was beautiful. It was a desert but it was beautiful. Endless red sand hills with those perfect wavy lines. But despite the beauty there was still a problem, where were they and what direction should they go? There appeared to be nothing in any direction. So, they went left. Walking, walking and walking, they eventually came to a small settlement. It was like nothing they have ever seen before. It was nothing like any human settlement they had ever seen.
“Holy shit is that what I think it is,” asked Ted.
“If you think it’s a floating house, then you are right.”
It was. All the houses here were floating about four feet off of the ground. They did not look like huts or even houses like they have on earth. These were perfectly round balls. Metallic with windows and doors going with the curve they had no obvious way of opening them but it was obvious what they were.
“Quick, run through what we know,” said Rachel, “Viibs is grassy - we are not there. Kowen is just a huge city - we are not there. Hequa is dessert, but it is not this technologically advanced - we are not there, you doing the mental math?”
“Yup, we are on a planet that we have no knowledge of. Approach with caution,” said Ted. They back track a while to circle the settlement and observe from the distance to see if it was a dangerous place. For, by their count two hours had passed and there was no movement at all from this place. They came closer and decided to be direct and just walk over there and see what happened. So, they walked. Approach in the least offensive manner they could, with their hands to their sides and nothing in them. Slowly they walked. Still no movement. When they got within ten feet of it they saw a distortion, Ted bent down and grabbed a handful of sand. They got within three feet of the distortion when he threw the sand at it. It bounced off, but it didn’t disintegrate - that was a good sign. There was movement, finally. The sensors where set off, apparently. A thing came out of the neared round house; it was short, dark and just plain odd. It looked mean; it had tusks protruding over its lips.
It hopped down from the porch of the house and walked to the distortion, it looked at them for a moment or two while they tried to look non-offensive. The alien lifted its hands up and mutter something and the distortion immediately before them disappeared it waved them in. It muttered something else and the distortion was restored. They scooted closer together and the alien motioned closer to him. They slowly did he gestured toward the house and a stair came down and they followed him up and into the place.
They entered into the apparent living room. There were cushions on the floor and the alien bided them to sit down and so they did. They looked at each other while they did so silently communicating with the “this is weird” look.
“Long we have awaited your kind,” the thing said and they gasped, “You seem surprised. Did you not intend on coming here?”
“How do you speak as we do?” asked Rachel.
“Our kinds were in contact many years ago. You may call me Puul.” He studied them then said, “Have you not been taught of our history?” They looked at each other and indicated that, no, they have not. “Your kind came here before, out of nowhere and left in the same manner. Our magic’s attract each other, we complement each other. How long have you studied the craft?”
“The craft?” asked Ted.
“Magic. How else did you come here?” Puul wanted to know.
“We do not know how we came here, we just were along with our house,” said Rachel.
“So, it was by accident. Are your kind not taught the ways of magic anymore?” he mused to himself, “no, you are finicky like that.” He looked at them and said, “You must have the talent or else this could not be happening. I suppose that you were sent here to learn, even if you do not realize it.”
“Learn, magic? I want to know more about how are kinds met,” said Ted. He looked over at Rachel and she nodded her agreement.
“Truth, it is what you desire. I speak as you do because we have been following the evolution of your kind. We’ve had all sorts of languages here and we use our magic to evolve it as yours does - this was one of the precautions we set up with our magic. It took long visits with you for use to learn the language if the day, the first to come spoke in what you call Latin. The second group to come spoke Japanese, we have also had Cherokee. It was diverse and the visits were inconsistent we had to keep up somehow and now two hundred years to the day after the last visit you have come.”
“Whoa. I guess our end did not keep up with this history…they must have been dismissed as crazy,” said Ted, “I suppose the only way back is to study magic with you?”
“Yes, to travel the corridors of magic by accident is usually a onetime thing. You must learn how to control your magic so that you can find your way home.”
“What will we need to do?” asked Rachel.
“Go to the temple. You will need to be presented to our most accomplished magicians. They need to formally accept you and then you will meet with the historians. Then you will train. A few from this village will lead your way there.”
“Wow,” said Ted as he turned toward Rachel, “do you think Natalia is okay?”
“I’m sure she’s being taken care of.”
“Sue will have it covered, I hope…”Ted trailed off. He started thinking about his daughter, she was only seventeen, so many bad things could happen to her; there were many things he had not taught her…like about aliens and what to do if anything
happened to Rachel and him.
They rested there that night with a plan to head out in the morning, they were too worried to get any actually sleep. This whole concept was very confusing and they were worried whether or not their daughter was okay. Why should they trust this guy, this Puul? The Blanks did not find any reason not to believe the story it was too weird to be fiction. No one could make up a story that outlandish and make it sound that convincing. If they don’t go with him they could get lost or die on this strange planet and if they do go, they could be killed or kidnapped or something else awful.
They went with Puul - it was their best option.
#
The venture was not that bad, it was your basic journey across a desert - hot days, cold nights, general unpleasantness. Puul shared more of the history of the two planets. Periodically humans would appear - they had no relation to one another and they came sporadically. Only a few returned to keep tabs of them. They never visited in reverse; the humans always came to them. There was no cohesion between anyone who came it was just people that had the magic because unlike on this planet not everyone has the power on earth and that is why they believe that they come here, to learn about the magic and how to control the magic. When these people returned to earth they did not often share their experiences with others. Some did, but that was a mistake. Magic is a powerful yet delicate thing and knowledge of it is rare and if it is commercialized then there is no point in having it in the first place - do not use your power for evil, or what you would define as evil, do not use your power for your own gain, use it to benefit yourself but do not use it for any type of vengeful actions. Do not share the word, you will not be trusted. That is the current truth. Back in the day, the real truth was good. You have power, you use it. If that is in an evil way, so what, someone will write a book about you.
Because all fairy tales come from some sort of truth, whose truth, however, is another story entirely. The Blanks listened to this philosophical view on the ethics of using their magic, and they listened well. It made sense. They did not openly question any of it, though in their minds they did. But supposedly this place has been keeping track of what works and what does not so there has to be some truth to all of this. It took them three days to reach the city. It, too, hovered a few feet off of the ground - it was low and flat, big and round. If they were to cross it it would take a day, or so it seemed. It also had a distortional force field around it and Puul got them through it. He slowly led them down toward the temple and as they walked more of his kind came out and followed them. It became a precession. News had traveled fast and when they reached the temple they were received thusly:
“They have returned - our mighty brethren from so far a place. So long has it been since the last came to learn, we expect to hear great and thrilling tales of our sister place - the strange and wonderful Earth. Come to my brother and sister and tell all of us your name!” this was said by a guy a bit taller than Puul but more grandly dressed.
“I am Ted Blank and this is my wife Rachel.”
“Whereabouts on the planet called Earth are you from, you are not Greek, Spanish or…”
“We are from a country called America,” said Rachel.
“Hmm, North America - the New World? When were last visited a quaint place called England had taken over the Indian lands - at least that’s what the English side of the story calls them, We had one of each come to us. Will you share how this was sorted out?”
“Um, we are from hundreds of years since that time, but, essentially, the colonists broke away from England formed a democracy and forced the Indians away and into reservations as the country grew to cover the majority of North America,” said Ted, “or at least that is it in a nutshell.”
“That is a very vague nutshell. We will get into the specifics later come inside and be renewed.”
They followed him. It was a huge ass place. There were rooms for everything you could imagine and more.
“I think so,” said Ted Blank. He stood up and looked around. It was dark, very dark. This was wrong, very wrong. This was not supposed to have happen. But what happened?

Searching
Back at the ship there was a great debate.
“We should not go to the city! It’s too dangerous, how well will they accept non-merchants?” this was Earl. He was very adamant about this.
“We need to go. We have not yet learned all there is to know from this planet. Maybe they monitor the distortion in space and will know how close to here they ended up!” said Sue.
“Or if they received any transmissions from an unknown source,” chimed in Rob, “I don’t know how much the technology has changed since I left here.”
But in the end it was decided that they would go into the city since the good outweighed the bad. The trip to the city was not that bad but they were blown away by what they saw. It was huge - your stereotypical space city, awesome technology. Yes, they were gawked at here but not as bad as in the smaller settlement they had just came from. They quickly got lost but they asked random people they saw if they had heard of anything suspicious but they would not give them the time of day. Eventually they found a police station, but it took forever for them to get to talk to anyone but when they eventually did it went something like this:
“What is it?”
“We would like to know if you have heard any news of a couple of people from Earth they would be in a two story house.”
“Pardon?”
“We are looking for this girl’s parents, they and their house disappeared and we think they are on an Uxe class planet.”
“I haven’t heard about any place called Earth or any houses, so my logic tells me check with the military or another planet.”
It was disappointing and when they tried to contact the military they only got some crazy looks. They were outsiders and they had no rights on this planet. They were dismissed as crazy loons. They hung around for a few days to replenish they supplies on the ship but nothing of importance amounted from it. They enjoyed the planet. Lush green grasses, no pollution and you could get around town via “beam me up, Scotty.”

Viibs
That was all she learned by the time they reached the outpost. At the outpost they questioned people seeing if they had heard any news on a house and a couple of humans. No luck there but they did not give up, they kept going along toward there destination - Viibs. Rob and Shelia will have to just stay behind in the ship until they figure out whether or not they will be in trouble or recognized if they leave the ship. Viibs is a planet that is very much aware of life on other planets. It is an overall pleasant place; the area in which they landed was grassy and lush. They walked over to a nearby village where the local folk were already standing outside staring - they were in the rural country. These people will be protective and will tend to stare - they were warned. Natalia and Sue were okay but Earl and Art got the mot stares. They were the most different out of all of them, sure, Sue and Natalia didn’t have tails but they looked mostly the same in the face as the people from Viibs. They were unsure of how to approach them. Viibs has been in contact with Earl’s people and from the looks he was getting indicated that he had not told them all there was to know about the history of these two planets. It must have been a harsh situation.
They received little information from this group of people. Only Sue approached them and she was advised to head to a bigger city and see if anyone in the government had received any information on a house. See, Earth hasn’t made friendly contact with what is known as the Federation of Planets, which have an information exchange system. These are planets that have a high amount of contact, an effect on each other’s economy. Sue’s planet Sicchor is not a part of this chain. Earl’s was, but they were on the outskirts of it all. And so they headed back to the ship chatting about where they could have possible have gone. It was a mystery. They all thought in the back of their minds that they will probably never find them, the Uxe class planets was so few and far between that it seemed impossible that they accidentally landed on one of them.

Backgrounds
Sitting on the bed, she was thinking about all that had happened in the past few days: she had a family and home, she lost her family and home, then she discovered that aliens do exist and her parents had worked with them and somehow built a mass transporter unit in their house only to accidentally set it off and end up God knows where. Speaking of God the presence of these aliens started making her question what she had know her whole life. Did God create them and did they have a soul? They certainly did not seem to be like animals that, she was taught, did not have souls.
Over the next few days as they traveled to the nearest similar planet as earth - an Uxe class planet. This was an unofficial word and was unfamiliar word to Natalia. This whole concept was strange to her, space was strange to her. There were no windows but on the bridge there was a screen that could show a video of the outside. Natalia liked to look at that, to her, it was fascinating. She would watch whoever was minding the controls - which, in themselves were very odd. Whoever was piloting seemed to know exactly what everything did and what it looks like when something is wrong. She tried to figure it out on the second day but she could not read any of the labels, they were in whatever Sue’s native language was. Which got Natalia thinking about how she does not know anything about any of the people she was traveling with, which was not a good thing - she did not even know if they were telling the truth about anything. So, she decided to talk to Sue first. She learned that Sue is from a very far away planet that is similar to Earth. She has been on earth for about fifty years.
Natalia’s parent’s predecessors were the first ones on scene to collect Sue. Sue was sacred, hurt and confused. She had been sent away on an exploration voyage to what humans call the Milky Way. Her species had only recently (a hundred years before Sue’s time) discovered a way to travel through space. She wasn’t the pilot or anything like that she was there as a custodian, but she watched and learned a ton while she worked, she had some limited knowledge of engineering and since the controls were clearly labeled it was not hard to figure out what everything did. But, someone sabotaged the trip causing them to force a crash landing on Earth and leaving only three survivors and an un-flyable ship. The organization detected the ship in distress when it was still over Earth and managed to approximate the landing site. They manage to not let the ship be disintegrated as it entered the atmosphere. The organization managed to get out three of the aliens alive the rest of the crew were dead on site. Sue had been knocked unconscious and remembered little of this but remember waking up on the grass surrounded by humans muttering things that she could not understand. Several years later and after the death of the other two survivors Sue wanted to check out the wreckage and see if it was salvageable. It was and for several years afterwards she and a few others worked on restoring the ship to working order - they finished a few days ago.
Rob and Shelia were exiles. They were leaders in a political movement that did not go over so well on their home planet of Viibs. Their culture had strong traditions in terms of politics and religion. Shelia was the main voice in their movement, they and all of the followers were exiled to different Uxe class planets only permitted to come back after a certain amount of time - their time would not end until well after they should be dead. Natalia couldn’t get too much out of them, but she got the impression that it was a violent movement. They were dropped off by military escorts and they tried to find their own way around but kept running to people who were scared and the organization picked them up after reading the tabloids.
Earl, he was very strange, not just in appearance but his story too. Earl left his planet intentionally, by space bus. Yes, space bus. He had no opportunities there anymore and wanted to start over. He went to several planets that his had made good contact with while leaving the rest alone. He went through all of them never finding what he was looking for. Then finally one day he decided to go some place new that was not affiliated with his home planet but there in lied the probable the bus would not go just where ever so he hitched a ride with a cargo ship and paid them to drop him off somewhere along their route and it happened to be the Earth that we all know and love. He did not fit in at all. He had to hide or get hunted by monster hunters, and like Rob and Shelia he got too many articles in the tabloids.
Art just told her about her parents. Nothing about himself he did not seem like he wanted to share about himself, like he was not ready yet. He was working with her parent with translations of whatever alien texts they needed to. He told her some anecdotes about them and stuff like that. Thinking back she remembered her parents talking about work and who they thought were strange and odd and stuff like that but Natalia never paid any attention to that sort of thing.
She left with Rob and Earl all of the others were already at the location. Rob was driving. It was scary, but they made it. The ship was located on a farm in the barn. This farm was owned by the benefactor. The barn covered only the tip of the ship the rest was stored underground…where it had crashed. The entire farm was built around it. It was Sue who had crashed on earth in this ship. It was she who had been working on fixing it and it was fixed (or so she said). Natalia was at awe when she saw the tip of the ship - it was huge and that was only the tip of the iceberg (excuse the cliché). They enter through the exposed air lock hatch. Earl went first then Natalia followed by Rob. They had to claim down a huge ladder to get to the floor. This was about an average sized air lock; they closed the hatch and opened the door. They were met by something strange.
It was a crew member was about seven feet tall, biped, teal and had a short tail. Arms were long; feet where hoofed. Natalia was startled. He had four eyes and a mouth, flat nose, silted nostrils.
“You must be Miss Blank. I knew your parents well,” he said, “my name is Art.”
“Hello,” was all Natalia managed to say. They all then followed Art to the elevator to get to the bridge to meet up with Sue, the captain. Natalia still could not believe that Sue was the captain of a space ship... though she did crash land here, and that slightly worried her. Crashing is never good. The ship seemed huge to Natalia, who had never even been on an airplane before. It all looked so unreal to her. To her it was huge but in reality it was a small ship - crew of ten. Later this was explained to her, a huge ship would have a crew of over three hundred - she was on a tiny ship.
All were on board and ready for takeoff. Sue took her chair and fired up the engines and prepared to burst out of the ground and the barn. It was a bit nerve wracking since none of them were positive that the ship would work, but it did end up starting, got out of the ground and got enough force to project it out of the ground and hovered above the ground…by hovering we mean thirty feet. They all tensed up, ready for whatever official takeoff had for them. But before they knew it, they were in the atmosphere. Rob had closed his eyes and peaked out just in time to see Sue standing up stretching and announcing that she had set a course for the nearest planet with Earth-like conditions. They all let out a sigh of relief and headed toward their quarters. Sue pulled Natalia aside.
“If you need anything, just let me know.” And then she sat back down to monitor the controls.
Natalia went to find her designated bed. It was going to be a long flight.

Preparations
Later after being shown the barracks and fed lunch Natalia was able to ask more questions and sort of get answers from Sue. Sue told her the minimal necessary about herself: she is an alien, though how she is currently dressed she does not appear to be any different than a human - physically - Sue said that she only looks human while wearing clothing. Natalia was not sure if she wanted to see what she looked like naked. Her species has telepathic abilities. This is how she knows people’s names before she is properly introduced. Sue told her more about the others Natalia learned that that dog-man she saw earlier was named Earl and was going to go with them… wherever they are going to be going. Sue learned many things during that lunch with Sue. Sue explained how the organization was arranged. The benefactor did not start this place up it was already in motion when he took over it - it was a family business. His family started taking care of the stranded alien several generations back. This place was run by money gained through a false charity for illegal aliens (nowadays, it changes every so often or else people will want to see what they are sponsoring). This current charity was one for illegal aliens in the past it has been for orphans and stuff like that.
After lunch Natalia had a pretty good idea about what her parents did and it was very different from what they told her - research scientist for the nearby university. That was not too far off but it definitively explained why they never took her to work with them. Natalia just spent the rest of the day meeting the crew and the search party. Earl was very friendly despite the fact that he looked mean. Earl took over Natalia from Sue and gave her the “official” tour of the building. There was only one normal sized floor the rest were twice the size of a normal sized floor. This was apparently to accommodate some rather large members of the organization. So there were three huge floors and one normal one. The normal one was the barracks. The rather large individuals had their own space on the first floor. She didn’t get to meet them, yet. One of the crew was the mate of Shelia, whom she had met earlier that day. He looked much the same as she did, though his tail was forked and hers was not. His name was Rob. Apparently these human names were similar to their actual names in the sense that they sound similar - most of their names are unpronounceable by human standards. They spoke English to the best of their abilities but most had a translator. Rob was a bit off in human terms - he seemed a bit crazy. But anything that is not human will seem a bit crazy to a human.
The rest of the crew was working on the ship, preparing it for the upcoming adventure. So Natalia hadn’t met them yet. She was informed that they would be leaving early in the morning from a secure take-off location so she needed to sleep now and they would wake her when it was time to leave.

This may seem strange to you But bear with me, the point will become clear over time. This is just what I observed.

It was like stepping into another world. It was an office building but somehow not. The first floor was the height of two. At the main desk was what at first glance was human but if you really looked you could see that it was in fact not a human by any means - the nose was wide and the nostrils were silted, the hair blue and the eyes had vertical pupils. Sue dragged Natalia to the desk.
“Hey, Sue, is this the Blank kid?”Its voice had an odd accent that Natalia could not place.
“Yup. How are you doin’ Shelia?”
“Good, Good. They are waiting for you up in the library,” Shelia said as she looked Natalia up and down then swished her tail, “she doesn’t look too excited.”
“She does not know yet…I better explain as we head toward the library,” Sue did not seem very concerned by the fact that an alien had just talked to her, alien was the best explanation Natalia could come up with for Shelia.
“So where am I?” Natalia asked.
“The safest place on earth… for us,” Natalia asked who “us” where, “oh, non-earth creatures. We are hunted by most earth creatures. You humans fear us. The animals fear us.”
“So that we can find out what happened to your parents. We only know that they were working from home when they and their house disappeared. I suppose you don’t know about their work,” she asked and Natalia shook her head; “well they work here. Not at whatever cover story you know.”
“Wait, is this... the government - “she was cut off by laughter.
“Government? If the government knew about this place they would charge in with guns ready to bag and tag us,” she calmed down a bit, “no, this is not government sponsored. This is private. Your parents were brought in about ten or so years ago… this place, this organization has existed for much longer than that. Most of us here were exiled or stranded nearby and the organization picked us up.”
Natalia could not believe any of this. The crazy old lady she met last night was an alien and her parents worked with aliens! As they were walking toward the elevator Natalia looked at every one. It was unbelievable. Not very many looked humanoid; most were animalesque. Most were bipeds, though. She saw someone that intrigued her the most - the face was canine the legs were canine and the torso was humanoid and… it had wings. Sue nudged her as they approached elevator.
“How do they all breath,” was the first question Natalia managed to ask.
“We only have those from planets with a similar atmosphere, come on in. Library, please.” And the elevator started moving. It dinged and thanked them on their way out. “Follow me; we need to talk to the benefactor.”
The library was huge. It was the entire floor and shelves where everywhere as well as computers. The shelves were floor to ceiling and the ceiling was once again about the height of two real floors. As they walked down the aisles Natalia noticed how strange these books are, they were every shape and color and were in every size - there was even one book that was as tall as Natalia was. She followed Sue through the rows of books, these aisles were not very easily navigated, there were many twists and turns and some of the books poked out a foot from the edge of the shelves; Sue apparently knew where she was going. In the center of the place was a large desk with a rather small man behind it. The man was defiantly human.
“Mr. Barre, this is Miss Blank,” said Sue. She back up a few paces. The man looked up.
“Glad to meet you Miss Blank, have a seat,” he indicated one of the comfy chairs in front of the desk. He spun his chair around and pulled a file out of the filing cabinet that was to his left, “this is a file of all the books your parents where working on translating along with a native speaker.” He placed it on the desk, “They had set this assignment aside for a little bit of learning on their own… which is what we suspect they were doing when your home disappeared. Due to the fact that they were our only human employees, I have no one to help look for them. So I sent for you.”
Um, so what am I suppose to do?” Natalia had to ask and had a feeling of dread.
“We have reason to believe that they were working on a mass transporter unit and accidentally set it off. We need to send out a search party. You and a few who are willing to travel…if you wish to, that is,” he looked over his glasses at her.
“Of, of course I will… but how?”
“We will form a group and send you out on our ship. Sue, here is our captain and will lead the party. We have certain rules that say that if we are searching for one of a certain species we must have one of that species with the search team. That is you in this instance. We will have you guys set out tomorrow. Sue, why don’t you show her to the barracks.”
And so they left the library, Natalia with a sense of awe… and Sue left with a feeling monotony.

Off we go...
Someone met her on the other side, “what happened?” as she led her down a hallway.
“Well, I just came home from school and my house was gone and the police weren’t very helpful and they just took me here” Natalia knew she sounded crazy but to her that was the truth so far. They lady nodded and indicated that they were at where they were going.
“Here is where you can sleep tonight. Pick out a bunk and I’ll bring you a few things. There’s a restroom down the hall.”
Natalia picked out a bottom bunk, sat down and look around. There wasn’t anyone else in the room at the moment. It was a narrow room with bunk beds lining the walls. She sat and thought. What the hell had happened, this was all wrong. Where are my parents -?
They lady came back bearing a bundle, “Here is some linens a towel and a few toiletries. Make yourself comfortable. Any questions?”
She had a million but the only one that made it out of her mouth was “is there a phone I could use, because my cell died earlier today?”
“Yes, you can use the one at the front, anything else?” there was not. The lady left. Natalia started crying.
#
She headed toward the front, trying to recall her parent’s cell numbers. It was first lady that was very kind at the desk and showed her to the phone. She dialed and the numbers did not work. Neither did her grandparents number. This was the definition of what wrong was. She headed back to the bunks. Sat down and cried some more. It was around eight o’clock and the house disappeared around two o’clock. Six hours of wrongness is very unpleasant for a young one left all alone in the world. She slept.
Around midnight she was awakened by someone stumbling in and falling. She looked over and saw an old lady who was probably drunk and dressed like a hobo. She got up to she if she was alright. They old lady was pulling herself up as she neared. Natalia offered her a hand, the lady accepted it stood up and looked her in the eye.
“They are not gone yet. Soon, they will be. But not yet. To another world they have gone…but to which that is the question” the lady slid onto a bottom bunk, “my name is Sue. It is nice to meet you Natalia Blank.”
Natalia took a step back, “how do you know my name?”
“I know everyone’s name,” she said. She lay down and passed out. Natalia went back to her bunk and fell asleep once more.
#
Daylight shone on her face and she woke up. She kept her eyes shut hoping it had all been a dream, that she was in her home, and there would not be a crazy lady snoring a few bunks over. She listened and heard snoring. Crap. It was real. She kind of hoped that if it was real that at least that the old lady was a dream. But no, she sat up and saw her. She went to the restroom. When she got back the lady was still passed out. Natalia decided to take inventory of her belongings. It was Saturday so she did not have school so most of what was in her backpack would be useless. School supplies - useless; wallet - not so useless. She had nowhere to go and she knew she could not stay here… she did not belong here.
“Hun, why don’t you come with me” the old lady Sue was awake and this made Natalia jump because. Natalia looked up and saw the lady standing up and getting her stuff together not still passed out like she thought she was.
“Where are you going,” Natalia wanted to know.
“The library.” Natalia shrugged and figured it would do no harm. They walked in silence all the way there. It was not that far seeing that they were already downtown. This was a strange place for Natalia. She usually was never downtown - she liked to frequent places closer to her home on the west side of town… but now her home was no more and the nearest library was one she had never been to before. As they approached Natalia stopped and said:
“This is a library?”
“Yes, yes. Come on they are waiting,” The older lady said.
Natalia asked, “Who is waiting?”
“You’ll see.” And she entered. Natalia had no choice but to follow her into the strange building that looked nothing like any library she had ever seen. It was about seven stories high, modern looking. Way too modern looking for a library. It was made out of that one way glass that looks like a mirror from the outside. There were no visible doors on this side of the building but Sue was standing purposely in front of a pane of glass waiting for Natalia to stand next to her. When Natalia stood next to her Sue grabbed her hand and they walked forward. Sue placed her own hand upon the middle of the glass and something beeped and the glass slide open…it was a door. Natalia gasped at what she saw when it opened fully.

It's truly an experiment. Never on public record has this been. I will see if after this one event, which will take the person I observe in two completely different directions, their lives will match back up.
Not every one is aware of these two different universes. They are the same as ours all of our basic history is the same but we deviate from them in a different way than they do to each other. We are aware for the most part. An innate part of us is aware, but, this awareness does not have the same strength in everybody.
This is my record of what I see. This is my experiment. This is a test.

Something was not right, she could feel it. It wasn’t gentle either; it was severe fear and anxiety that she felt - her heart was racing. Sitting up Natalia looked at the clock, it was two-twenty, and in an hour she could leave school and see if anything really was amiss. Looking at the projector screen she had missed a few slides on the power point. Her English teacher was giving a presentation on the Heroes Journey. Natalia zoned out. The bell rang; time to head home. She had almost forgotten about what she had felt earlier until she had gotten into her car it had slipped to the back of her mind. On her drive home she pondered what it could have been, what would make her feel that way? It was probably nothing but she couldn’t shake the feeling that it was something. It was not normal to be sitting in class and then all of a sudden feel that great amount of fear. Turning into her neighborhood she knew something was wrong. She parked along the curb, her heart racing, she got out and pushed her way through the crowd of on-lookers and when she made it up to the curb of her yard she sat. It was all she could do.
She sat still, thinking. This was not supposed to happen. Things were not meant to end this way. She knew life was not fair - but, not this unfair, no, not this unfair. She sat outside of her house... or rather where her house used to be, wondering how the hell all of this had happened. Everything she knew is now gone. Her life is changed forever. She cannot keep going on living life without knowing the truth. Truth, it is a tricky subject. What you view as the truth is the truth to you and nobody else. Each individual has their own truth to find and Natalia had to find hers. Her family was gone; her house was gone; her life was gone - and nobody knew anything. She just came home from school and her house was not there, she came home to a backed up street filled with news reporters, police cars, and fire trucks. It had only been an hour since everything changed. The school was not notified because no one could remember who lived there. Her parents were not the most social people in the world. They never talked to the neighbors they just kept to themselves and Natalia.
The moment she walked up the street she knew something was wrong. She knew something was wrong even before she saw the cars - she felt it. When she saw the cars she panicked and ran toward where her house should have been. She gasped and she stopped running. Where there was once a two story house there was nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing. Slowly she walked forward. Holy fucking shit, she thought, what the hell has happened? She walked toward the nearest cop and asked what had happened, that was her house. The cop grabbed her hand and led her through the crowd.
“What is your name?” he asked.
“Natalia Blank. What happened to my house,” Natalia asked.
They didn’t know - nobody knew what happed to the house or the rest of the Blanks. She sank to the ground and we are back to the beginning of this interesting situation. All she could think of was how this was unfair. Why did it have to be her house? Why not the Andersons, across the street? She felt a hand on her shoulder and she looked up.
“You’ll have to come with us,” a gentle voice said and the hand pulled her up and led her to a police car and helped her in. She sat in silence while they drove her to the police station. She was taken inside and was told to sit and wait. So she sat and waited, and waited and waited. She was forced to wait for what seemed like hours upon hours. And, apparently it was hours because when she finally got taken to a different room they apologized for the wait. Natalia didn’t know what to think. This seemed wrong; it was not right. The police should have asked her more about her parents, her next of kin and stuff like that so that she could get taken care of until they had figured it all out. The first thing they said to her was:
“We have found no record of any Natalia Blank in this city, county, or state. Someone here is lying and it is not me,” said the cop. Natalia just stared at him. “Though, since you are a minor, or at least since you claim to be a minor, I will have to release you. I don’t know who you are and I don’t know what happened to your house but you can’t stay here. I will have someone drive you to a family member’s house or to a women’s shelter, whichever you prefer.”
She just stared at him. This was wrong. This was all wrong. This is not what the police are supposed to do in this situation. Actually, what they were supposed to do, she didn’t know, but she did know it was not supposed to be this. This was wrong. But she managed to force out an okay.”
They wanted to know where to take her. Since her nearest relatives where twelve hours away she only had the option of the shelter and she that was her answer. And so they went. Off in to the unknown weirdness of a women’s shelter. They just dumped her there and she had to figure it out for herself.
She approached the desk. “Excuse me, what am I supposed to do?”
The lady turned around and smiled at her, “what do you need?”
“I guess a place to stay since my house disappeared and this is where the police took me?”The lady at the desk made a face but responded in a kind voice.
“Go through the door and someone will take care of you.” And so she went.
START
